Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is constructed of five appointed representatives serving terms of six years. The Chair and Co-Chair are elected each year by the members of the Commission. The main function of this body is to act in an advisory capacity to the Town Council on the preparation and amendment of land use and environmental plans and regulations. Their actions are recommendations to the Town Council, who must make the final decisions. The Planning Commission’s role is to hear public comment and make recommendations in keeping with the long term goals of the Town of Eatonville.

Attending a Planning Commission Meeting

EATONVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION MEETINGS are typically held the first and third Mondays of each month at 6:30PM, pending discussion items, see meeting schedule on homepage for current meetings.

STUDY SESSION MEETINGS are held prior to the regular Planning Commission meeting as the Planning Commission deems necessary.

PLANNING COMMISSION MEETINGS are held at the Eatonville Community Center, located at 301 Center Street West. Planning Commission meetings falling on a holiday Monday may be canceled or postponed. All meetings are open to the public and citizens are welcome to attend. Citizens’ comments are received at regular Planning Commission meetings and during public hearings. The Planning Commission Agenda is available from Town Hall prior to the Monday meeting. Agendas are subject to change.

CITIZEN COMMENTS: If you wish to make comments at a Planning Commission Meeting, please sign up to speak on the provided sheet. When it is time for you to speak, walk to the front of the room and give your name and address for the record, then state your views. Speak loudly and clearly so that your remarks will be audible on the recorder.

This is NOT a discussion period. However, the Planning Commission will try to answer questions and will follow up individually to provide more information if requested. The Chair has the authority to limit public testimony to a given time length depending on the circumstances.

Public Hearings are held for the purpose of receiving citizens’ comments on a specific topic or issue. Citizens’ Comments on other issues or topics may be presented to the Planning Commission under Citizens’ Comments. If you feel strongly about a public issue or a local concern, the Planning Commission urges you to share your information and thoughts with them at these times.

In all cases where citizens are making comments, whether during the citizens’ comment period, at a public hearing, or on an informal basis at a study session, citizens are asked to address issues and not individual commissioners or staff. Persons who make personal, impertinent, or slanderous remarks, or who become boisterous, threatening or personally abusive while addressing the Planning Commission may be asked to leave the meeting.
